THE world famous Tubes rock ledge at Jervis Bay on the NSW south coast has been the venue for some land-based game fishing mayhem in recent weeks as a solid run of marlin has provided LBG devotees with plenty of memorable action.
Legendary land-based game fisherman Bob Russo reports that last week, billfish to around 140kgs had been taken from the well known Tubes platform, the location of many meritorious LBG captures over the years.
One lucky angler reportedly accounted for two black marlin at the Tubes in the one day. There were also reports of many fish hooked and lost and the occasional heartbreaking “spool job”.
Fisho writer Greg Finney sent us the accompanying images from last weekend when several marlin were caught. Finney’s son Andrew reports that around 16 marlin were hooked from the ledge over the two days with five fish in total kept and transported to shore by boat. He also reports that several marlin were also successfully released by anglers.
With warm water continuing to hug the NSW south coast the bite may be set to continue…
