THE BETS series wound up yesterday in picture perfect conditions at Sydney’s Darling Harbour.
Eventual winners Team Mcphail Real Estate held off a spirited challenge from 2010 BETS GF winners Tackleworld Marks Point/Legend Boats to take out the 2011 Berkley Evinrude Team Series and the $20,000 First Prize.
Scott and Vicki Lear held their lead from Day 1 with another superb three kilo plus bag on Day 2 and showed just how profitable a relaxed, fun approach to fishing can be. Even the return of an ailing 31cm fish to the water could not stop the pair securing a sensational win in front of the massive Darling Harbour crowd.
The last team to present their bag to the weigh master, a weight of 3.45kg was required to clinch a win over the one of the most successful and consistent teams of the 2011 Series, Mark Healey and Adrian Neoh.
Guest presenter Andrew Ettingshausen and an enthralled audience were transfixed on the scales as the numbers ticked over to settle on 3.50kg to deliver the win to Scott and Vicki by just fifty grams, making the pair $20,000 dollars richer courtesy of major sponsors Berkley and Evinrude.
Bringing up second and third and $6000 and $4000 respectively, Team Tackleworld Marks Point/Legend Boats as mentioned and Team Compleat Angler/Koolabung Lures/Yozuri of Peter Macor and Troy Van Kampen. Both highly consistent and competitive teams, their places on the podium were well deserved and reflected the hard work and preparation needed to compete at this level.
Second placed Team Tackleworld Marks Point/Legend Boats
Team Compleat Angler/Koolabung Lures/Yozuri of Peter Macor and Troy Van Kampen took out third place.
