Million Dolar Fish: Australia’s “Most Wanted” fish still out there!

There are eight “Million Dollar” fish still at-large.

SEASON 7 of Australia’s richest fishing competition, Million Dollar Fish, has ended, with a record number of anglers catching a lucrative barramundi worth $10,000.

The competition, underwritten by SportsBet, sees a number of tagged fish released across the Northern Territory’s iconic fishing destinations – Darwin, Katherine, Kakadu, Arnhem Land and the Tiwi Islands. This season an incredible 16 were caught, netting anglers $160,000. More than $700,000 has now been paid out across the seven seasons of the competition.

Season 7 ended on 31 March 2022 but, in great news for fishing fans, eight fish carrying tags worth a whopping million bucks remain active year-round. Anyone who registered for Season 7 (registrations closed on 31 March 2022) is eligible to claim the prize money if they catch one of the big ones. If you didn’t register, you will need to wait for Season 8 registrations to open later this year. Registration is free.

To help fishos on their way, organisers have revealed the winning tag numbers of Australia’s “Most Wanted” fish, those worth $1 million. Once one is caught, the others become invalid:

Million Dollar Fish is delivered by Northern Territory Major Events Company (NTMEC).

NTMEC CEO Tim Watsford said Season 7 had been the most impressive yet.

“We’ve had the most fish caught and the most cash paid out,” he said.

“We’ve also seen the Territory’s iconic pristine waterways in the spotlight, including Dundee Beach, Cahills Crossing, Adelaide River and Darwin Harbour. If you haven’t already, book yourself a trip to the Territory and join the hunt for Australia’s Most Wanted fish!”

As an added lure to register for Million Dollar Fish, registration automatically enters you into the Lucky Prize Pool. This season that included holiday packages, fishing equipment, gift vouchers, camping gear, fridges and more.
