AUSTRALIA’S richest fishing competition, Northern Territory’s Million Dollar Fish, gives away another $10,000 as the third fish is caught by a female angler just five weeks into Season 9.
NT local Loren Hanton has found herself $10,000 richer after reeling in a red-tagged barra at the stunning Yellow Water billabong in Kakadu National Park.
Loren says she wasn’t having much luck fishing with her partner during night fishing and was about to call it when she cast her first lucky line, reeling in a 70cm barra. Filled with renewed enthusiasm, she kept on casting, which eventually saw her hook the $10,000 prize.
Each time a tagged fish is caught, the winner gets to donate an extra $1,000 to a Million Dollar Fish charity of their choice and Loren chose Shoreline, which provides education and employment opportunities for young Indigenous people.
Season 9 will run till 31 March 2024, with 11 barra worth a million and 98 barra worth $10,000 still swimming in the Territory’s pristine waters waiting to be caught.
The competition promises a million dollars to a lucky angler this year thanks to a number of initiatives that will be introduced throughout the season.
