AURUKUN local Stanley Watt has landed a monster barramundi on a fishing trip out with his family according to a report in the Cairns Post.

Watt, 32, even jumped into the crocodile infested waters and wrestled the fish to ensure he didn’t lose it and eventually hauled the beast onto the boat.

The 148cm barra was hooked off Wallaby island on a “regular lure” from the Aurukun convenience store and Watt said it was the biggest he’d seen since fishing the area as a child.

“When I was a little boy my dad took me to Wallaby Island and showed me all the best spots,” he said.

10 people enjoyed the fish later that night.
