AROUND 7000 juvenile kingfish have been stocked into Botany Bay in NSW over the past week. This follows on from the recent stocking of 3000 kingfish into Lake Macquarie. Stocking of these fish, currently around 20 cm in length, will provide a fantastic boost to the existing local kingy populations and will give better fishing opportunities for anglers.
NSW DPI researchers will closely monitor these stocked fish to assess impacts, monitor their movements and residency, as well evaluate the contribution of the fish to the local recreational fishery. This will inform any future stockings to ensure we continue to follow best practice to minimise any environmental impacts whilst maximising the returns from the stocked fish.
Thanks to ANSA NSW for assisting to secure contributing funding for this stocking project.
