WINTER is over and the beginning of the spring welcomes the arrival of dolphinfish (mahi mahi) off the NSW coast. The highly anticipated appearance of this great sport fish also signals the start of the DPI fish aggregating devices (FADs) season. In anticipation for the reliable push of warm water from the north, delivered by the East Australian Current (also known as the EAC), DPI FADs from Tweed Heads to Port Macquarie have already been installed.
All FADs will progressively be deployed down the coastline by the end of November and DPI is looking forward to another great summer fishing season just around the corner.
Use their FishSmart app for the most up to date status of your local FAD (go to the maps section).
