FISHING World has just returned from an amazing trip to the exotic coast of Costa Rica to test the new Penn Clash spinning reel. We chased a variety of species, many not found in Australian waters. After nearly 24 hours of straight flying time we were greeted at the Crocodile Bay resort by the friendly staff and served a quick breakfast.
Before we even had time to put our bags down we were walking down the long wharf and onto one of the many 33ft Striker boats and heading for the fishing grounds. The action wasn’t far away with the first live sardine in the water getting smashed within seconds by one of the highly sought after local species, the rooster fish. Anglers travel from all over the world to target these awesome looking fish and to have one in the boat not 10 minutes into the trip felt great. A few minutes later we had an even better rooster, estimated at about 20kg, boatside and released!
The following 3 days provided some great fishing at times with highlights including blue marlin and rooster fish fighting over surface lures and fishing one on one with lure innovator Patrick Sebile from Sebile Lures. The Penn Clash spinning reels and Penn Carnage range of rods definitely got put to the test and came through with rave reviews from everyone involved. Keep an eye out for a feature article in an upcoming issue of Fisho.
