Position Vacant: AFANT Executive Officer

THE Amateur Fishermen’s Association of the Northern Territory Inc. (AFANT) currently has a position open for an Executive Officer, starting March next year.

AFANT is the well-recognised and successful peak body representing 40,000 recreational anglers in the Northern Territory.

The Executive Officer, working with the AFANT President and Committee, is responsible for all aspects of the association’s activities including its role as an advocate for recreational fishing and its involvement in fishery management.

Applicants will need to demonstrate an ability to deal effectively with government and industry leaders at all levels as well as fishing clubs and grass roots fishers. They will also need exceptional communications skills ranging from complex submission preparation through to direct media activities. AFANT is a not-for-profit association so the position requires strong organisational and priority setting skills and the ability to manage the legislative and reporting requirements of the NT Associations Act.

Detailed knowledge of recreational fishing in the NT and the issues involved in fishery management across recreational, commercial and indigenous fishing sectors is highly desirable and knowledge of the fishing industry in Australia will be an advantage. Knowledge of current natural resource management issues and processes is also desirable.

An attractive remuneration package which includes a vehicle and superannuation will be negotiated with the successful applicant based on skills and experience.

For more information about the role and the organisation or a full job description and selection criteria please contact Craig Ingram on email craig@afant.com.au or phone (08) 8945 6455 or 0415 471 600.

Please send your CV with a cover letter demonstrating your suitability for the role to craig@afant.com.au applications close on 18th December 2014.
