TROUT fishos who regularly visit the Snowy Mountains would no doubt have bumped into tackle store identity and keen fly fisho Tom Baxter in recent years.
Up until fairly recently, Tom was a regular smiling face behind the counter at the Alpine Angler in Cooma – a regular stop-off point for trouties looking for the latest fishing reports or some last minute gear and tackle.
A knowledgable fresh and saltwater fly angler and hunter, Tom regularly fished the lakes and rivers of the Snowy Mountains and was often seen “swoffing” atop rock ledges on the NSW South Coast. Also a keen photographer and musician – Tom is drummer for pub rock band The VeeBees – he relocated last year to his wife’s native Argentina and, judging by recent emails to Fisho, is enjoying life immensely chasing the local majestic dorado and abundant wild trout.
Her’s an excerpt from his last email:
Went fishing yesterday afternoon, hooking 23 and landing 18. My best session ever. Biggest was only 2.8kg but still a heap of fun and managed to tag a couple too. Went again today during siesta and in a one hour forty five minute session, myself and my mate Rodo managed 13 to the bank.
Got some jump pics on my little Olympus, best I can do holding the rod in one hand and camera in the other…
