NSW school students registered with the Department of Primary Industries’ (DPI) “Get Hooked, it’s fun to fish program” are being urged to put their thinking caps on, and switch their fishing rods for their pencils to take part in two exciting competitions, with some great prizes up for grabs.
Schools Manager, Amalia Brohier said the Department is running a naming competition for crab mascots, as well as a colouring competition.
“Each school is encouraged to submit one entry with name suggestions for both the adult crab and the junior crab,” Ms Brohier said.
“And if your school is successful – you’ll win a free full day fishing workshop for up to 200 children, a framed picture of the students at the workshop, a wall plaque and certificate and a large plush toy crab.
“All students are also encouraged to enter the colouring competition, with a rod and reel and goodie bag pack, a certificate and a small plush toy crab up for grabs.
“The ‘Get Hooked’ program is a fantastic program for kids, and encourages children to take an active role in the management of their waterways and fish stocks.
