REC fishers in Queensland only have a couple more days to have their say on the state government’s pre-election promise to introduce three net-free zones.
As Fisho has reported, a renewed campaign by anglers to hold the state government to its pre-election promise has been underway in recent weeks.
See previous story here.
The commercial fishing sector has reportedly come out with a strong campaign opposing the move for the net-free zones, which will be established at: Trinity Bay, Cairns; St Helens Beach to Cape Hillsborough, north of Mackay and Yeppoon/Keppel Bay/Fitzroy River, Capricorn Coast.
You are invited to provide your feedback on the proposed boundaries before any final decision is made. Once the zone boundaries are finalised, discussions will be held with commercial fishers who are directly affected by the closures.
Please read the fact sheets on the proposed net-free zones below before completing the survey.
You can comment on any or all of the three proposed net-free areas at https://www.getinvolved.qld.gov.au/gi/consultation/2555/view.html
Submissions must be lodged by 5pm, 15 July 2015.
