In the lead up to this weekend’s 2010 Federal Election, Recfish Australia has released the findings of a questionnaire the former federally funded rec fishing body had sent to Australia’s political parties.
The questionnaire asked the major political parties for their views on several issues facing the recreational fishing sector. Recfish put a series of seven questions to the parties, examples of which include:
- Will your party support a study to determine the real value of recreational fishing to the Australian economy?
- Will your party support a national recreational fishing policy?
- Will your party support an increase in the percentage of GST revenue invested directly into recreational fishing?
Recfish received formal responses from the following parties:
- The Shooters and Fishers Party
- The Australian Fishing and Lifestyle Party
- Family First
- Liberal National Party
- Australian Labor Party
- Australian Democrats
- Australian Greens
A table of responses to these questions suggests that our political parties have very different views on the importance of recreational fishing to Australia’s economy and to the way of life of millions of Australians.
The full responses from each political party can be found on the Recfish Australia website at: www.recfish.com.au. This information makes a valuable reference for those looking to make an informed decision prior to this Saturday’s election.
