WA recreational fishing peak body, Recfishwest, says it is bitterly disappointed following the WA government endorsement of a port development in Cockburn Sound.

Cockburn Sound is one of the largest known spawning aggregation sites of pink snapper in the West Coast Bioregion. WA fsheries says it is critical for sustaining adequate breeding stocks.

Recfishwest believes concerns around the port development have been repeatedly ignored by the Westport Taskforce and says it has failed to answer what impact a new port will have on pink snapper stocks.

Recfishwest is calling on the WA government to address the taskforce’s shortcomings to ensure that Cockburn Sound’s future as a marine habitat and the future of West Coast pink snapper is not put on the line.
