WESTERN Australia’s recreational fishing peak body, Recfishwest, says a statewide three-year trial FADs program has been a success.
Recfishwest says positive feedback and reports along with Facebook posts and Youtube videos of captures on the FADs revealed good catches of key fish species – highlighting the importance of a future FADs program.
Recfishwest has also reported that the FADs program created a brand new dolphinfish fishery for the Albany fishing community. However, the not-for-profit acknowledged there have been setbacks which can be learned from in developing a future FADs program.
In a Facebook post, Recfishwest told its followers “We believe creating great new fishing opportunities like this is exactly what recfishing licence money should be spent on.”
