A PETITION opposing the proposed WA government nine-month “demersal ban” clocked up 15,000 signatures last weekend, making it the biggest online petition in WA history.

WA’s peak fishing body, Recfishwest, spoke with thousands of concerned recreational fishers, tackle store staff, boating businesses and social media influencers from every far corner of WA throughout the 2022 Perth Boat Show about the future of their fishing, livelihoods and businesses.

Recreational fishers are calling on the WA government to come back to the table to “find a better way” to rebuild West Coast dermersal fish stocks.

Recfishwest says its package of recommendations developed with its team of experts – that includes increased fish spawning fish protection better rules, data, management and demersal stewardship education – can get the stocks where they need to be without the social and economic pain of a nine-month ban.

Recfishwest is asking WA anglers to sign the petition to add your voice to the chorus of concern that simply cannot be ignored: https://www.parliament.wa.gov.au/Parliament/
