I HAVE just finished a three and a four day charter, with clients Roger and Barbara Cunningham from NZ. We had three days of glamourous weather and some good action with 300lb and 500lb black marlin caught & released as well as some great action on light tackle with oversized Spanish mackerel and yellowfin tuna putting smiles all over the anglers’ faces.
Dave McPherson then joined us for three days. You may remember Dave from last year, he caught two huge marlin the first of which I called at 1100 lb and the next one was larger – all released on the same afternoon. Unfortunately Dave’s luck was not as good this year. The current was running uphill (north) and the action slowed, but we still managed to get dave a couple of black marlin around 350 lb.
Dave traded his tagged name last year of “Lucky Dave” to this year’s “Unlucky Dave”, but that’s fishing. Fortunately, he’s one of those guys that just loves being out there and doing it.
The wind is picking up and we have a few uncomfortable days ahead, but more than likely that will bring the fish on. Stay tuned.
