NSW Department of Primary Industries (NSW DPI) is holding community information sessions along the NSW North Coast to answer questions on the current review of grey nurse shark protection in the state.
NSW DPI, Manager Fisheries Ecosystems, Sarah Fairfull, said NSW DPI officers will be on hand at the sessions to provide copies of the discussion paper and answer any questions.
“The discussion paper has been prepared to form the basis for community consultation on the future of grey nurse shark protection arrangements in NSW,” Ms Fairfull said.
“The paper reviews the conservation history and status of grey nurse sharks and sets out some of the current issues related to their protection and conservation in NSW.
“These community information sessions are an opportunity for members of the community to come along and ask questions about the discussion paper.”
The information sessions will be held from 2.30pm to 7.30pm at the following locations:
· Byron Bay – Monday 11 July at the Bryon Community Centre, 69 Johnson Street
· Coffs Harbour – Tuesday 12 July at the Solitary Island Marine Parks Office, 32 Marine Drive
· South West Rocks – Wednesday 13 July at the CWA Rooms, 47 Landsborough Street
· Port Macquarie – Thursday 14 July at the Rotary Community Centre, 198 Hastings River Drive
· Forster – Friday 15 July at the Forster School of Arts Building, 12 Little Street.
The public is invited make a submission on the issues raised in the discussion paper and on future management arrangements for the protection and recovery of grey nurse sharks in NSW. Submissions close on Friday August 26 2011.
