SHOOTERS and Fishers Party MLC Robert Brown, said today the Government decision to relocate the Cronulla Fisheries Research Centre to three coastal towns will benefit rural and regional New South Wales.
He said the Shooters and Fishers Party is a strong advocate for the Government decentralising Government departments to areas outside the Sydney Metropolitan area.
“Port Stephens, Coffs Harbour and Nowra are perfectly able to host this important research work.
“My issue however, is that I would have thought there were more jobs that were relocatable to rural and regional areas. For example, the Government could well look at decentralising the huge numbers of staff at National Parks and Wildlife Service offices at Hurstville.
“Perhaps this is on the Government’s agenda. If they do go down that road the Shooters and Fishers Party will support the move wholeheartedly.
“The Cronulla site is historically important to the local community, it is recognized however, that limited access and compromised expansion capacity, probably made the Government decision inevitable,” Brown said.
