MANY people say that Florida Keys has some of the best sportfishing in the world, and two captains working out of Marathon thgis month have turned up results that make it pretty hard to argue with that proposition.
According to an article by Doug Olander published in Sport Fishing, two amazing records have been set for sailfish releases.
“The Florida Keys sailfish-release record was broken twice in one day by two different boats,” Capt. Barry Meyer told Sport Fishing.
“The day proved windy, rainy and “every sailfish enthusiast’s sight-casting dream come true!” Barry says.
Capt. Marty Lewis on the charter Main Attraction took full advantage of that. His anglers went to work, and at day’s end, the boat had 61 release flags flying. That broke the standing Keys record of 57 releases in a single day, Barry says.
At the same time, anglers aboard Silent Hunter with Capt. Meyer were also releasing sails hand-over-fist. Barry’s anglers finished the day with 65 sailfish releases, now standing as the new Keys record.
That’s a lot of fish in one day! You can read the full story HERE.
