FISHERIES officers in Victoria are reporting an increase in the number of people hiding illegal snapper catches on board boats.
Two boats were recently discovered with illegal hidden catches, one involved 35 fish, the other saw the angler’s illegal catch exposed in front of several onlookers at Sandringham.
There were two other similar incidents with one involving a man discovered at Black Rock with snapper hidden under the trays of a tackle box. Another boat at Mordialloc was revealed to have 71 snapper aboard, eight of which were undersized and 50 found hidden inside the boat’s canopy.
Fisheries Victoria encourages responsible fishers to report illegal fishing to the 13FISH (13-3474) reporting line.
