THE Squidgie Southern Bream Series Round 5 was contested in pleasant weather conditions last weekend on Sydney Harbour. A massive 113 teams competed under blue skies and light winds.
The boating section saw an impressive 93 teams take to the water. The day belonged to team Shimano – Mark Dunphy and Bill Karayannis – with a very healthy 5/5 4.38kg bag, which secured them the $3700 winners’ cheque for this round.
Team Bass Boy – Andy Parkinson and Adrian Soto – took second place honours with a 5/5 3.925kg bag, which included the 1.515kg Damiki Big Bream for the boating section.
Rounding out the top three were consistent performers Craig Johnson and Jason Mayberry from Complete Angler Batemans Bay/Squidgie Pro-Range with a 5/5 3.66kg bag.

Weighing in his first bag since he started competing in the SSBS kayak round Bill Woods definitely showed persistence is the key by taking out first place with a very nice 3/3 1.885kg bag. Well done Bill. Second place this round was Wet Yakka’s Luke Kay, with a 3/3 1.85kg bag. In third place was Stewart Dunn from Lox Rods/Sailing Scene with 3/3 1.81kg. Stewart also took home the $100 cash for the new Hobie Fishing kayak big bream with a 0.940kg specimen.
