MAGNIFICENT Mallacoota saw 78 boating and 11 kayak teams take to the water for the first two day event of the Squidgie Southern Bream Series two day event – the final round for 2011.
The boating section saw a team of new anglers to SSBS take out first position and secure themselves a healthy $4650 cheque. Team Smith Barflies, Jesse Rotin and Mark Hayes, held on to the top spot after day one to claim victory with a 5/5 5.05kg and 5/5 3.65kg = 10/10 8.7kg combined bag.
Second place getters team Cranka Lures/Original source, Dan Mackrell and Mat Keaton, weighed in another two full bags for a final combined weight of 8.495kg. Third place in the boating section went to consistent NSW anglers Scott Brown and Trent Killmore, team Damiki/Pontoon 21 with another 10/10 full bag weighing 8.3kg. The Damiki/Evinrude big bream prize went to Team Warren, Warren Carter and Rob Warren with a Mallacoota Monster weighing 1.845kg.
The kayak section was dominated by Matt Petrie of team Scott Lovig Hobie, in his first SSBS event Matt scored 2/3 1.96kg and 3/3 3.14kg, total 5/6 5.1kg bag to take top honours. Closely following on his heels was Bay and Basin Sportsfishing’s Darryl Head with a 5/6 4.675kg bag.
Darryl also secured the Hobie Fishing Big Bream Prize with a nice 1.44kg bream on day two of the competition. Third place was Dave Hedge with a 5/6 3.975kg bag.
