Survey to ensure rec fishing future

Recfish Australia is currently preparing a report using information from an online survey on areas of interest to recreational fishers – these areas are locations within Commonwealth waters, which typically begin 3 nautical miles (5km) offshore.

Recfish says the purpose of the survey is to provide information that will assist rec anglers in demonstrating to the Federal Government the significant interest in ensuring ongoing access to fish and fishing locations in Commonwealth waters.

Recfish also says it is committed to ensuring the long term viability of sustainable recreational fisheries and will strive to ensure that the rights of recreational fishers are considered alongside all other stakeholders. Fishos are asked to provide the name or description of their top five locations and are also asked about their perceptions of marine parks.

There is also the opportunity to provide contact details for those that wish to be kept informed of the Marine Bioregional Planning Program; the aim of the MBP is to establish a network of comprehensive and representative Marine Parks within Commonwealth Waters.

More information about the process can be found here.

The survey can be accessed here.
