ORGANISER of the Sydney International Boat Show, the Boating Industry Association Ltd (BIA), has announced that the marina at this year’s show will be named the “David Lockwood Marina”, in memory of the journalist whose work contributed significantly to recreational boating in Australia.
Alan Blake, President of the Boating Industry Association Ltd said, “David was an excellent writer and terrific friend to the boating industry. He was passionate about his writing and reporting of recreational maritime pastimes, contributing to newspapers, magazines and even online video reviews. David passed away after a short illness earlier this year, and we’re immensely proud and pleased David’s family allowed us to share our appreciation of his work in this way.”
Well known and highly respected across the boating and fishing spectrums, David set the standard for the local marine press.
While David always loved fishing, he was enamoured with every aspect of boating. He loved fast, high-powered centre-consoles; competed in offshore yacht races including the Sydney to Hobart; yet could also appreciate the finesse and luxury of a custom motor yacht – and what’s more could communicate the qualities via the written page.
His presence at the Sydney International Boat Show was assured, with his focused determination to see everything as he trailed through the halls and marina for days-on-end attempting to speak to everyone.
David assisted the BIA regularly in many ways. Visitors to the Sydney Show would see him from on stage speaking of the virtues of the boating lifestyle, sharing his favourite boating locations and, of course, sharing tales about boating with the family.
The David Lockwood Marina and the show’s exhibition halls open at 10am on August 2. The 2018 show runs through toAugust 6 with doors open to 7pm each evening.
