NSW Ports and Waterways Minister Paul McLeay announced construction will begin within six months on a $500,000 passive boat ramp facility for kayakers, canoeists and dragon boat paddlers at Sydney’s Blackwattle Bay.
McLeay said the waterfront site for the ramp was on NSW Maritime land at Bank Street, directly adjacent to the eastern tower of the ANZAC Bridge.
“NSW Maritime will complete the planning by March. With construction commencing in July the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2010,” McLeay said.
“NSW Maritime is the safe boating regulator and strongly believes this site offers an excellent opportunity for small oared or paddle craft to safely access the harbour clear of significant water traffic.”
McLeay said NSW Maritime will continue to liaise with groups and stakeholders about other potential marine uses for the area.
