The tagged barra’s lengthy journey.

SUNTAG, a recreational fish tagging and fisheries monitoring program in Queensland, revealed a tagged barramundi has been recaptured after a six year, 1,150km journey.

The fish was initally tagged and stocked into Bedford Weir at Blackwater on the Mackenzie River in 2014, measuring 170mm. The tagged barra was at liberty for 2,008 days, growing 980mm before being recaptured in the Proserpine River at 1,150mm.

Suntag said it’s only the second barramundi in more than 30 years to have travelled over 1,000km.
