Team Fishing World/Shimano wins SSBS

A PERFECT day greeted the 75 qualifying teams (25 kayaks and 50 boats) for day 1 of the Squidgie Southern Bream Series Grand Final held at St Georges Basin last Saturday, October, 20.

However, it wasn’t long into the day before the wind started howling and the teams started to struggle in the trying conditions.

The Bream Bandit Simon Morley took an early lead in the kayak division weighing in a very respectable 3/3 2.085kg bag to be sitting ahead of his nearest rival Jason Reid who had a 3/3 1.54kg bag.

In the boating section the pointy end of the competition was much closer after day 1 with only 160 grams separating leaders Honda Marine/Ecogear anglers – Steve Gill and Andrew Rae – with a 5/5 4.28kg bag and Shimano/Fishing World – Guy Jamieson and Wal Balzan – with a 5/5 4.12kg bag.

Day two saw many teams struggle to find their bag. Emerging victorious for the kayakers was Hobie Fishing’s Stewart Dunn who after finishing day one in 11th position with a 2/2 0.95kg bag weighed in an impressive 3/3 1.83kg day to finish with 5/6 2.78kg for the weekend. Jason Reid secured the second place he held on day 1 with a 3/3 1.12kg bag on day 2 for a combined 6/6 2.66kg. Third place in the kayak section belonged to Luke Kay with a 5/6 2.48kg combined bag.

Team Fishing World/Shimano’s Guy Jamieson and Wal Balzan eventually took the spoils in the boating section with an impressive total bag over the two days of 5.515kgs.

2nd place went to Team Compleat Angler Batemans Bay/Squidgy Pro Range’s Craig Johnson and Jason Mayberry.

3rd place went to the Honda Marine/Ecogear Anglers team of Steve Gill and Andrew Rae.
