THE opportunity for Western Australian anglers to have a say on the future management of their state’s fisheries is almost over.
The period for public comment on the WA Fisheries Management Paper No. 252 –
A Resourced-based Management Approach for Recreational Fishing in Western Australia 2012, expires on April 30.
A copy of this paper is available from tackle stores or the Department of Fisheries at this link: http://www.fish.wa.gov.au/docs/mp/mp252/index.php?0706
The WA Department of Fisheries is currently reviewing the state’s recreational fishing management framework in what it says will make the rules as consistent and easy to understand as possible and also help meet future challenges.
These efforts will centre on the management of finfish stocks, particularly demersal scalefish.
Fisheries says its management paper outlines a new, simplified framework of bag and possession limits based on state-wide management arrangements for various categories of finfish and invertebrate resources.
