In order to increase the durability of the reel, Daiwa has made waterproofing the reel structure an absolute priority. Through years of research and development, Daiwa found the solution – a membrane of magnetic oil, which shuts out saltwater. By using magnetised oil in conjunction with magnets, the oil attaches itself to the metal surfaces to form a seal. Being magnetised this lubrication system avoids any friction, prevents dust or water intrusion, eliminates oil spray and improves reel life expectancy
New to Freams is ATD or Automatic Tournament Drag. This is a new introduction into Daiwa spinning reels. A major drawback with many drag systems is that they are not smooth at the beginning of the drag and do not adjust to suit line distance or a fish slowing down. ATD rectifies this issue. At the beginning of a strike with most drag systems, the drag starts smoothly, then increases to its pre-set drag rating. As the fish swims further away and begins to slow down, line pressure increases thus increasing drag and line breakage is a high possibility. The ATD system recognizes this and automatically decreases the drag to compensate for the added pressure, thus minimising the chance of line breakage.
