ALMOST 900 anglers, plenty of prizes, perfect weather conditions, and high quality fish combined to help make the 20th Anniversary Club Marine Trailer Boat Fishing Tournament at Port Stephens a huge success.
This year, the Tournament moved along the foreshore to the park adjacent the ferry terminal. It offered anglers better parking; a floating pontoon marina for easy on-water access; plenty of beach space to pull up on the shore and swim, and more space for sponsor displays and demonstrations.
The organisers say the event revolves around making people feel welcome and, while there are very few anglers who can realistically aspire to the “Champion Angler” mantle, the sheer number of Species and Lucky Draw prizes such as high end Lowrance electronics and Costa sunnies offered over the weekend gave all a good chance of taking home a quality prize.
Jack Edgar, fishing by himself in a 4mtr tinny, worked very hard to convincingly win the 2013 Junior Champion mantle with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in Bream, 1st & 3rd in Flathead, 2nd and 3rd in Snapper, 2nd in Tailor,
and 2nd in Teraglin for a record 25 points.
In a similarly dominant fashion, and also fishing in a tinny by himself, (Fisho writer) Paul Lennon put in a huge effort to amass a healthy 17 points comprising 1st & 2nd Flathead, 1st & 2nd Luderick, & 3rd Luderick to be crowned the undisputed 2013 Champion Senior Angler.
At the end of the day, a number of Lowrance HDS 7 and 9 sounder/plotters were drawn in
the lead up to the major lucky draw prize, a 385 Big Boy tinnie powered by a 25HP Evinrude E-TEC engine complete on a trailer with a Lowrance sounder, Shimano fishing tackle, and Club Marine insurance, prepared and presented by Wayne Palise from Bay Boat Sales. First time competitor, Fred McDonald, from Singleton was the lucky angler to take this top package home with him.
