Two weeks till 2013 Flathead Classic

THE 2013 Gold Coast Flathead Classic is on from October 2-5 and is building to be a great sportfishing event.

Once again organised by the Gold Coast Sportfishing Club, this prestigous catch 7 release event caters to all anglers from tournament regulars to first timers. This iconic tournament, now in its 20th year, plays out on the estuaries of the Gold Coast which are renowned for their big flathead – and there’s no better time to go crocodile hunting than this time of year.

The format is over 2.5 days and as it is an eco-friendly catch and release comp, no live wells are needed. What entrants do need is a digital camera to capture images of catches against the tournament ruler provided at the Classic’s briefing.

The Flathead Classic is a lure and fly comp only. A full copy of the rules is available on the Gold Coast Sportfishing Club’s website.

The comp can be fished as a team of 2 or 3 and there are event prizes for Champion Team and individual trophy categories along with some other species trophies. All major prizes are won by random draw, so you don’t have to be the best angler to take home a great Blue Fin boat, motor and Oceanic trailer package!

Entry fee includes: Tournament entry, a team Tournament Bag packed full of goodies, Tournament Shirt for each angler plus 3 dinners and one lunch, as well as entry into the Lucky random draw.

Fishing World is fielding a team at this year’s Classic, so stay tuned for reports on all the action!
