VICTORIAN Fisheries Authority is giving Victoria’s next generation of anglers the opportunity to get hooked on fishing for life with another round of its Little Angler Kits program.
Getting kids away from screens into the great outdoors and introducing them to fishing as a past-time could set them up for years of fun and adventure, with the added thrill of hopefully catching the family dinner.
After delivering kits to grade 5 students in Victorian primary schools in 2023-24, next year kids will be able to catch their healthy new hobby with their free kit including our Little Anglers Guide to Fishing.
Each kit has all the gear youngsters need to kick-start a lifelong passion, including a fishing rod and reel with line, tackle box with tackle, lead-free sinkers and an eight-page Kids’ Guide to Fishing.
The guide outlines the basics of fishing safety, knots and rigs and also advice on the best baits to use, peak fishing seasons and hot spots across Victoria with colour illustrations of species likely to be caught.
Kits will be delivered through schools before the September 2026 school holidays, ready to catch snapper off a pier or rainbow trout released as part of our record-breaking fish stocking program.
