THIS video shot during the two day Fishing for the Future Program in the Shoalhaven region of coastal NSW, shows a group of Indigenous and Non-Indigenous children enjoying a charter fishing trip with their local police.
The Fishing for the Future Program is funded by the NSW Police Force’s Aboriginal Strategic Direction Crime Prevention Grants Program and is run in partnership with the NSW Department of Primary Industries (Recreational and Indigenous Fisheries) with the assistance of the Nowra Youth Centre (Habitat Night Patrol).
The program is proudly supported by Fishing World Magazine, BCF (South Nowra), McGlashan Media, Shimano Fishing Australia, McCallum’s Tackleworld and Escape Fishing Charters.
The first of its kind, this innovative program is one of the strategies which forms part of the Shoalhaven Local Area Command’s Aboriginal Action Plan which was developed in consultation with the local community.
Well done to Inspector Steven Johnson for his hard work in helping kids get into fishing.
