THE NSW Government is proposing a change the way it uses Menindee Lakes.
The Government is proposing to build a pipeline from the Murray River to Broken Hill, which it says will mean water security for the 20,000 residents of Broken Hill and be good for both the environment and the community. But others disagree, including local graziers from Tolarno Station. They point out that the pipeline will mean the authorities no longer have to store water in Menindee Lakes (currently Broken Hill receives water from Menindee via a different pipeline ). This will mean less water, less often in both the Menindee Lakes and the Darling River.
Who wants the pipeline? Cotton growers… but there has apparently been no consultation with affected communities. Check out the video below and decide for yourself.
