DAY Two of the recent Trafficwerx NT Secret Women’s Business Barra Challenge saw some of the girls give up trolling for barramundi and start casting into the lily pads to target saratoga. With this tactic at least the competitors had a chance to catch fish and increase their points, since the barramundi had proven to be very scarce.
This tactic paid off for team Cupla Qwyties & A Chill which after day one was the leading Champion Team and was able to maintain the lead to take out overall Champion Team on 522 points. The team’s points were made up of a total catch of 14 saratoga and two barramundi.
Angling Angels came back with a vengeance on day two to finish a close second and were one of the smallest teams in the tournament with only a team two anglers. Fantastic efforts given most teams were made up of three or four anglers.
The Reidy’s Biggest Barramundi Perpetual Trophy was proudly presented to Amanda Parker from team Barra Patrol with a 56cm barramundi. Amanda got this fish trolling a rock bar up the billabong and this happened to be her first ever-legal barramundi.
Over the two days there was a total of 18 barramundi and 48 saratoga caught by the 123 competing women anglers.
The presentation and awards night was a good chance for the ladies to let their hair down after a tough couple of days of fishing. I witnessed a few sore heads packing up camping gear the next morning!
Well done to all the ladies that toughed it out. I am sure all the competitors will be back to attend again next year, let’s pray now for a big upcoming wet season.
