ORGANISERS of the 2011 Dave Irvine Memorial Snapper Classic have just announced a new kayak fishing category as part of the upcoming fishing competition to be held on the June long weekend.
In an Australian first the organisers of the popular snapper fishing event have formally opened the doors to allow kayak fishers to enter this highly coveted offshore lure fishing comp.
With a total prize pool of over $45,000, this years event at Coffs Harbor takes place on June 11 and 12 and has already drawn the interest of over 200 entries from around Australia. While powerboat teams currently make up a large percentage of this year’s event, organisers are hoping for a late charge of kayak related entries to coincide with todays milestone announcement.
To complement the extended competition format, kayak fishers must adhere to an additional set of kayak specific rules that include, fishing in pairs for safety reasons, logging on and off with Marine Rescue Coffs Harbor and abiding by all NSW Maritime vessel compliance laws. Kayak fishers have also been provided special access options related to kayak launch and retrieval within a pre-defined zone between Moonee Headland and Bonville Creek at Sawtell Headland.
Kayak fishers interested in entering the event must also note on the attached entry form that they are “Kayak Fishers”.
Competition entries must be faxed to Coffs Harbor Deep Sea Fishing Club on (02) 6651 7257 or emailed to: fishingc@tpg.com.au
