FISHING World has been busy these past few months filming the remainder of our online TV series, Fishing Journeys. The good news is this week we kick off the second part of season 1 which will again feature a variety of locations and fish species, and best of all, brought to you free of charge each Friday.
In this week’s episode we join the crew from Raymarine and head to Cairns in search of marlin and other light tackle sport fish. We meet up with experienced gameboat skipper Tim Dean onboard his boat Calypso and fish the inside of the Great Barrier Reef. This part of the Reef is famous for its early season run of juvenile black marlin. These pint-sized blacks, while not exactly big fish, more than make up for it in stamina and aerial acrobatics. They’re a fun fish to target on light gear and a great fish to show off on film.
Once the marlin went quiet we made a short run across to some nearby reefs and enjoyed dropping micro jigs for a number of hard fighting (and tasty) reef species. We found this popular technique deadly on the Northern reef species and had a ball using light gear on these tough critters.
A big thanks to Tim Dean and Calypso for putting us onto fish. Also a big thanks to Raymarine for making this episode possible and producing some clever electronics which made a big difference finding fish.
Enjoy!
