AFTER the first weekend of the annual NSWGFA Interclub Tournament at Port Stephens, a first time entry from Tasmania leads the field in the Tag & Release category.
According to Kelly Dalling of the Black Marlin Fishing Blog, around 130 boats are expected to be competing over the two weekend event, a much smaller turnout than usual.
After Weekend One the results are as follows:
Tag & Release
Sydney GFC’s team 2 (Ambition, Casey, Gale Force, Tenacious, Smartbill) are in the lead with a healthy margin over the next two closest teams, Newcastle/Port Stephens GFC team 2 (Born Free, Gunrunner, French Look III, Seaka, Akuma) and Port Hacking GFC team 1 (Just Chill, Shimano Orca, Livin’ the Dream, Viking II, Ultimate).
The big surprise is the individual lead boat in Tag & Release: the Game Fishing Club of Northern Tasmania’s solo entry (visiting team) Reel Gold*.

*The Tasmanian team cannot win the T&R Interclub overall as it is only open to NSW boats. Visiting anglers and boats are not entitled to fish for NSWGFA Angler, NSWGFA Team and Boat Trophies in this Competition.
Capture
On the Capture side, things area much closer affair with the Central Coast composite T1 (Dark Horse, Sirocco, Topaz, Reel Trouble, Althaldo) leading from Lake Macquarie GFC team 1 (Redemption, Glorianna, Blue Blooded, Baja, Bundy 1) and Broken Bay GFC team 2 (Rampage, Carnage, Chasing Tail, Facilitator, All Business).
Some of the notable captures: 328kg tiger for Carnage, 359kg tiger on Bundy 1 and 166.2kg blue marlin on Lockout.
Round 2 of the NSWGFA Interclub Tournament takes place this coming weekend March 1 & 2.
