Regular readers will know that Fisho recently purchased a Bar Crusher 620C as our new project boat. While the Crusher is a great boat, perhaps we should have waited for one of these new Hard Top models. This new boat features the same tough plate alloy construction, smooth ride and fishing friendly features as the cabin boat but with an enclosed cabin to offer the ultimate in protection. Fisho editor Jim Harnwell is getting to be a bit of a softie in his old age and he likes the way a hard top cabin shelters his aged bones and delicate skin from the often nasty conditions on the NSW South Coast where he fishes.
We think he’ll just have to toughen up!
Back to the new model: the 620HT is the smallest model in Bar Crusher’s Hard Top range – there’s also the 640FT and the massive 760HT.
Like the 620C, the HT features heavy duty, pre-stressed 5mm (bottom sides) and 4mm (top sides) marine grade plate aluminium and measures 6.80m LOA with a 2.35m beam.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a Bar Crusher without the exclusive “Quickflow” water ballast technology. A cavity that runs the full length of the keel quickly fills with water when the boat is stationary, which lowers the chines into the water for greater stability and drains in seconds as the boat moves forward to allow it to leap effortlessly onto the plane.
The 620HT’s toughened safety glass windscreen and all-weather hard top allows full standing room and an unobstructed 360 degree view from the helm, while the spacious cockpit has plenty of fishing room for all onboard.
Taking into consideration the demands of hardcore offshore anglers, Bar Crusher has also designed the dash of the 620HT to accept the larger screen marine electronics displays – be they flush- or bracket-mounted.
Rated to carry a 175hp outboard, the 620HT’s excellent performance capabilities, 200L fuel capacity, huge cockpit fishing area, heavy-duty treadplate deck, optional anchor winch and forward bunks are just a few reasons why this new Bar Crusher will quickly earn a reputation as one of the most versatile Hard Top trailerable sportsfishing boats in its class.
