Top 5 lures from AFTA

HERE are five of the stand-out lures we saw at the recent AFTA tackle trade show on the Gold Coast.

Chasebaits Smash Squid

The squid that broke the internet! During AFTA you would have seen numerous videos circulating of this ultra realistic squid imitation. In real life, it looked just as good!

If you chase jewies, kingfish, snapper, flathead or any number of tropical species, the Smash Squid should be on your shopping list!

Halco Trembler 70XS

The latest from Western Australian-based lure company is the Trembler 70XS. This version of the Trembler features new colours with a clear reflective coating. The Trembler, however, is much more than a conventional 70mm vibe. This lure features heavy duty hooks and split rings, which are designed to allow the Trembler to maintain its enticing action, something most similar lures can’t achieve. What this means is the 70XS is about as versatile a lure as you’ll find, it’s tough as nails! I’m predicting everything from trout to big barra, and everything in between, will eat this lure. We tested it at the Abrolhos Islands off WA and found it worked well on the coral trout and plenty of other tough critters.

Samaki’s new colours

Samaki’s Vibelicious and Thumper Tail now come in two new colours – the Midori Mullet and UV Squid.

Since AFTA, both colours have been doing well on the flatties and jewfish. Fisho writer Mark Williams has been catching plenty of Lake Macquarie flatties on the Midori colour and also managed a nice jewie from his Hobie on the same lure just last weekend.

Storm Spinnerbaits

Storm has come out wth a range of really nice looking spinnerbaits this year at AFTA.

The range includes three styles – the TI-1, featuring a virtually indestructible titanium wire construction, the ST-1, which uses stainless steel wire but still achieves good vibration, and finally, the Gomoku spinnerbait.

All three come in a range of colours and should be deadly on natives this summer. Fisho is really keen to get our hands on the Gomoku models for chasing bass over spring!

Jackall Micro Pompadour

With bass season just around the corner, Jackall’s Micro Pompadour is already shaping up as one sought-after lure. The newly released lure is the baby brother of the popular Pompadour range which has been a big hit on the larger natives over the past few years.

Measuring just 42mm and weighing 6.5grams, this Micro version features the same enticing action as its larger siblings and comes in a good range of colours.
