Another Sydney rock fishing fatality

ANOTHER rock fisherman has been killed in Sydney, with a man dying at Maroubra over the weekend after a helicopter rescue team was unable to save him after he had encountered difficulty.

The man, aged in his 40s, was fishing with a friend at Lurline Bay on Sunday morning when he ventured into the water to retrieve a bucket.

Emergency services arrived on the scene around 10.30am, after passers-by reported the man struggling in the water.

A Westpac rescue helicopter was able to winch the man from the water and he was taken by ambulance to the Prince of Wales Hospital, but died shortly afterwards.

It is understood that the man was not wearing a lifejacket.

The man is the second rock fisherman to die at Sydney’s beaches in a week, after a man suffered a fatal cardiac arrest when struck by a large wave at North Curl Curl last Saturday.
