Broadbill swordfish landed from the rocks

SPANISH angler David Cano has achieved possibly a world first in fishing after landing a broadbill swordfish from shore – on a lure.

While the catch itself is quite a rarity – a 6 kg broadie was caught on 8 kilo line from Governor’s Head, Jervis Bay in 1994 – Cano amazingly hooked the broadbill while sight casting with lures from rocks near Catalonia in the north east of Spain in mid-August, while targeting bluefish and leerfish.

Cano’s small broadbill swordfish was reportedly caught on a 25g Lurenzo Handmade “Don Belone” sinking stickbait, which is designed to imitate a needlefish or garfish.

New to the Australian market, Lurenzo Handmade lures are now available from Ebb Tide Adventures. More info: www.ebbtideadventures.com
