IN great news for Victorian freshwater anglers, it was announced last night that Dartmouth Pondage will reopen to land-based fishing from May 1, 2018.

Fishing access was closed in 2013 amid concerns about public safety from fluctuating water levels, however agencies have agreed they can be managed through fencing, signage and temporary closures during peak flows.

The day it opens, the Victorian Fisheries Authority (VFA) will stock 20,000 yearling trout to accelerate its recovery. These trout will complement the wild trout that spawn in its tributaries.

The VFA says it is really looking forward to making Dartmouth Pondage a fantastic trout fishery again for everyone to enjoy!
