A ROGUE crocodile believed to be responsible for killing several pet dogs has been trapped on a remote river bank in the Northern Territory after terrorising children.
The 4.43m (14.4 ft) beast was captured at Daly River community, south of Darwin, the NT News reports. A local man had reportedly seen the monster croc under a mango tree in his backyard last week.
Community police officer Mark Casey said the station had nine reports of dogs being taken in a month.
“Crocs are an ever-present danger but you don’t see them,” he said.
“They can sit for days on end on the other side of the river and watch you go fishing off the same log or rock – that’s how they hunt.
“Next thing you know, bang, the dog’s gone.”
The saltwater croc had become located close to the settlement of 500 people when the wet season river levels dropped. The huge reptile had also killed wallabies in the area before being captured this week.
Two more big crocodiles and a smaller one are also believed to be in the area.
