THE Great Sandy Marine Park Zoning Plan is currently being reviewed. You can have your say, anonymously, on this plan via an on-line survey, but you’ll need to hurry because the survey closes this Monday, February 25, 2019.
The Fraser Coast Fishing Alliance is urging anglers to complete this survey today. You’ll need to be quick though, as it closes on February 25.
One of the main issues with the Great Sandy Marine Park Plan is that it allows for commercial netting operations in conservation zones and specifically in the Great Sandy Area. This incoprorates:
The Great Sandy Designated Area incorporates areas of conservation park zones in:
- Baffle Creek and tributaries
- The Elliott River and tributaries
- The Burrum River and tributaries
- The Mary River and tributaries
- The Great Sandy Strait and Tin Can Bay Inlet
According to the alliance, the key question is in second section, so you need to proceed to Part 2. Where the survey asks “which of the following topics would you like to comment on?”, select “Designated Great Sandy Area.”
Q : Which of these actions should be considered for the designated Great Sandy Area:
A : Remove the Great Sandy Area and keep the conservation park (yellow) zone
Please also ensure you leave a comment calling for the designated “Great Sandy Area” to be removed under.
