EXMOUTH Game Fishing Club is once again hosting Western Australia’s premier game fishing event, Gamex. This six-day tournament (March 11th – 19th) is held in the fish rich waters off Exmouth’s North West Cape – recently ranked #6 in the top 10 marlin fisheries in the world by the global game fishing network Billfish Report.

Gamex draws visitors from all over the state, country and even overseas to experience the extraordinary fishing Exmouth has to offer. With Exmouth’s fishing grounds within very close proximity to shore, most competitors fish from small boats for over 35 different game fish species found in these waters – a user friendly combination no other game fishing event in Australia offers.

Exmouth Game Fishing Club President, Jeni Gates said Gamex 2016 is shaping up as another bumper event, both in terms of hot fishing action and the activities surrounding the tournament.

“Our previous Gamex event saw some astounding fishing with over 601 billfish (sailfish, black, blue and striped marlin) tagged and released by competitors, which are catch and release numbers that rival the world’s very best sport and game fishing tournaments.”

“This year has seen the warm summer current arrive quite late off Exmouth, which means the fishing is tipped to really heat up as we move into Gamex’s mid-March timeslot.” Mrs Gates said.

But Gamex is more than just a fishing tournament. The event also incorporates a week-long line up of activities for the whole family, including non-anglers. The 2016 tournament kicks off with the Potshot Resort Rockin’ the Boat concert night with legendary Australian guitarists, Phil Emmanuel and Pop Standen, along with upcoming music superstar, Minne Marks.

For the foodies there is the Novotel Ningaloo Resort Long Table luncheon with Bib & Tucker Restaurant owner, Eamon Sullivan, and the Exmouth Escape Resort Fancy Dress Gourmet Reef & Beef BBQ evening showcasing local Ningaloo produce.

Families will enjoy the Ningaloo Discovery Free Family Fun Day with celebrity appearances from former Olympian, Emma George and Paul Worsteling from the hit TV show iFish. Renowned marine biologist Dr Julian Pepperell will be conducting scientific research throughout the event, and there will also be information sessions and workshops for kids and adults alike.

“Gamex really does have something for everyone. Aside from world class fishing and all the fun surrounding the event, visitors can also enjoy the many extraordinary experiences Exmouth and the Ningaloo have to offer. From swimming with whale sharks or snorkelling over fish filled coral gardens just footsteps from the beach, to exploring the ancient Cape Range National Park or taking a scenic flight over the Ningaloo Reef, there’s unforgettable adventures everywhere you look,” Mrs. Gates said.
