Fish habitat forum to be staged in Tamworth

THE NSW 2011 Fishers for Fish Habitat Forum is to be held in Tamworth in May.

Forum coordinator and Industry & Investment NSW fisheries conservation manager, Charlotte Jenkins, said the Tamworth event aimed to raise awareness of issues affecting fish habitat and the State’s fisheries resources and will have a strong focus on freshwater systems.

“In particular, we want to recognise fishers’ concerns about their local fish habitat and inspire others to get involved,” Ms Jenkins said.

The forum will be held in Tamworth on the 20-21 May with an optional extra day for the inaugural Tamworth Carp Muster on Sunday 22 May. It is free for recreational fishers and is a component of the angler driven Fishers for Fish Habitat project. Funds from the NSW Recreational Fishing Trust and I&I NSW are used to fund the project.

This is the first time the Forum will be held west of the range. Ms Jenkins said anglers passionate about the future of their favourite pastime should attend the forum and have their say.

“Fishers will also hear from other recreational fishers who have been putting something back into their sport, see local fish habitat restoration at work and gain an insight from an international special guest into fisheries management overseas.”

To register for the Forum go to http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/fisheries/habitat/rehabilitating/fishers/2011-forum or phone (02) 6626 1107.
