Fishing World set for future growth

AUSTRALIA’S most-respected sport fishing media brand Fishing World has been purchased by editor Scott Thomas.

The sale, from Yaffa Media to Thomas’ company Side Mission, is due to finalise on 31 October.

In the editor’s chair since 2015, Thomas said the acquisition paved the way for continued digital expansion of the half-a-century-old media brand.

“Since 1969, Fishing World has been an integral part of the recreational fishing industry – entertaining, informing and educating millions of anglers,” Thomas said.

“The media landscape has shifted significantly and the opportunities for growth – for Fishing World and our industry partners – are in the digital space, with increased presence across more online channels and delivering new experiences to our audience.

Fishing World launched its influential website almost 20 years ago and together with print and social, has an enormous reach. “The brand will continue to evolve and adapt to this ever-changing media space while never losing sight of Fishing World’s heritage and commitment to our readers.”

Fishing World has been in the hands of Yaffa Media since the 1970s when founder Ron Calcutt sold the popular magazine title.

Yaffa Media managing director Tracy Yaffa said the sale allowed the company to focus efforts on its business to business portfolio and expanded conference and event offering.
