FISHING World has been voted “Australia’s Best National Fishing Magazine” at an awards night at the AFTA tackle show in the Gold Coast this week. WA-based Western Angler took honours as the best regional title.
The inaugural Australian fishing media awards saw 10 magazines nominated in the national and regional categories.
AFTA officials said large numbers of votes were recorded in both categories with final results showing Fisho and Wangler were clear winners.
Receiving the award at a gala dinner on Monday night, veteran Fisho publisher/editor Jim Harnwell thanked the tackle industry for its support over the 45 years since the magazine was founded.
“I’d like to acknowledge my colleagues Mick Fletoridis, Chris Yu and Scott Thomas for their support and hard work,” Harnwell said.
Harnwell, who has been editor since 1995, singled out long-time Fisho contributor David Green as playing a major role in the magazine’s success and for being “the best and most respected fishing writer in Australia”.
Western Angler editor Scott Coghlan said he was “honoured” to win the Best Regional Fishing Magazine award and thanked his contributors, colleagues and readers for their support.
The editors of Fishing World and Western Angler extended congratulations to all other magazines nominated in the 2014 awards, including Blade Kayak Journal, FishLife, Freshwater Fishing, NAFA, Fish & Boat, Bush n Beach, Fishing Monthly and Fishing SA.
The staff of Fishing World wish to acknowledge the ongoing support of our thousands of loyal readers who have followed the magazine for many years. Without you guys, such an award wouldn’t be possible!
